VIRTUAL “We Play Too Much” Open Mic Night
Dec 09, 2020— 6:00 pm
We Play Too Much!
LPL Teen is excited to partner with local youth organization Maine Inside Out for their first virtual open mic event!
“We’ve played since 2007, creating plays inside correctional facilities and in our communities.
When Covid hit, we found a way to keep playing, despite the challenge of not being in a room together.
We play because we can’t bear the pain of oppression and racism and we know we need a change.
We are artists for social change, we are family, and we are love when harm happens.
Join us to share a poem, sing a song, or just be with us, so we can imagine and activate freedom together.
Come play with us, We Play Too Much!”
You are invited to MIO’s Virtual Open Mic on Wednesday, December 9th!
- 6-7pm is open to young people and participants planning to share their art
- 7-8:30pm open to audience members and live streaming on Facebook, YouTube and Give Butter.
Join the zoom meeting or watch the live stream with your Give Butter team.
The “We Play Too Much” Virtual Open Mic will run from 7-8:30pm, and feature original art by MIO artists and other youth who choose to participate. The event will be open for registration through zoom as well as live streamed on MIO’s social media outlets.

About Maine Inside Out: Maine Inside Out (MIO) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2007. MIO activates individuals and communities to imagine and embody freedom through art, advocacy and support, and transformative justice. Formerly incarcerated and historically oppressed people lead this work to achieve MIO’s purpose to build a world where everyone matters and belongs.
MIO practices a form of popular education, Theater of the Oppressed, to organize incarcerated, formerly incarcerated and system-impacted people to develop leadership and create community change inside prisons and in communities directly impacted by mass incarceration. Original theater is a tool to articulate vision, organize community, build power, and address the systemic roots of incarceration.
At MIO, we create the world where everyone matters and belongs by living from our authentic values. We value trust, creativity, consistency, connection, purpose, and love.
