VIRTUAL Teen Read Along: PET
Jul 20, 2020— 4:00 pm
Join teen librarian Harper to read and discuss PET by Akwaeke Emezi!
The live readings are complete, but you can still view the recorded videos on Facebook.
LPL Teen’s final summer read aloud is going to be a little different from our previous ones — instead of simply reading the book aloud on our social media channels, we are encouraging teens (and patrons of all ages) to read along with us at home and then join us for discussions after each chapter.
Teen librarian Harper will host virtual reading and discussions on Facebook and Instagram Live. Discussion themes and questions will come from Penguin Random-House’s official Pet Discussion Guide and will be shared on social media so readers can respond asynchronously if they miss the live sessions.
About PET:
Pet is here to hunt a monster. Are you brave enough to look?
There are no monsters anymore, or so the children in the city of Lucille
are taught. Jam and her best friend, Redemption, have grown up with this
lesson all their lives. But when Jam meets Pet, a creature made of horns and
colors and claws who emerges from one of her mother’s paintings and a drop of Jam’s blood, she must reconsider what she’s been told. Pet has come to hunt a monster, and the shadow of something grim lurks in Redemption’s house. Jam must fight not only to protect her best friend, but also to uncover the truth, and the answer to the question:
How do you save the world from monsters if no one will admit they exist?
A limited number of free copies of the book are available for local teens — please email Harper at hchance@lewistonmaine.gov to get a copy of the book or for more information.
