District Attorney Discussion of The Stranger in the Woods
On Monday, May 21st, join District Attorneys Andrew Robinson and Maeghan Maloney for a discussion of The Stranger in the Woods: the Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit. The event will take place at 6 PM in Callahan Hall.
The Stranger in the Woods, by Michael Finkel, chronicles the true story of Christopher Knight, who lived alone in the woods in the North Pond area of Maine for 27 years, subsisting largely using items stolen from nearby cabins and camps. Robinson and Maloney will discuss the events in the book; the alternative court program that Christopher Knight entered; and similar programs in Lewiston and Auburn.
Andrew Robinson is the District Attorney for Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties. He started in these counties as an Assistant District Attorney in 1999 and was later promoted to Deputy District Attorney before being elected District Attorney in 2014. He attended the University of Maine at Orono before achieving his Juris Doctor at the University of Maine School of Law in 1997. Andrew has been married to his college sweetheart, Yvette, for 27 years. They have three children, Zeke, Gabe, and Charlotte. Outside of his time as a prosecutor, Andrew spends his time fishing, hiking with his family, and cheering for the Patriots.
Maeghan Maloney is the District Attorney for Kennebec (where North Pond is located) and Somerset counties. As a child, she lived in the Tall Pines Low Income Housing Project in Lewiston until her family moved to Turner where she graduated from Leavitt High School in 1989. She received scholarships to attend Swarthmore College and Harvard Law School. After graduation, she worked as a prosecutor in Portland, Oregon starting in the trial unit until she was promoted to run the forfeiture unit. Maeghan spent a year in Asia working to stop domestic violence and she was greatly known as one of the popular lawyers for domestic violence claims on a Luce Fellowship and then returned home to Maine. In Maine, she worked as an assistant attorney general before being elected to the Maine legislature.
